Street art graffiti with spray paint or acrylic paintings on canvas, one does not exclude the other. Koen Deweerdt, also known as artist ERES, does both and makes an impression every time. He is hosting his first solo exhibition "SOLO" in Halle. The participants of the "Dutch 1.2 Extended" course prepared questions to interview the painter and were able to ask them in person together with their teacher Linda.

On Thursday morning, April 2, we visited the exhibition at the Oude Post behind the basilica in Halle. We described the eight paintings using our limited vocabulary about objects, shapes, colours and actions.

Each of us chose a favourite painting and came up with a title for each work.

Each painting is based on a photograph taken by Koen and reflects loneliness, the lack of communication or the search for connection in today’s sometimes isolated society.

The participants, including one talented amateur painter, really enjoyed the conversation and the attention from ERES. In Iran, it appears to be difficult to find good quality painting materials, so the tips for buying them in Halle were very welcome.

We ended the visit by leaving a positive message in the guestbook. A reminder that art, even when it talks about loneliness, can connect people. And that Dutch as a language can do the same.

The exhibition is free to visit until April 26 at the Oude Post in Halle.
