From Brazil to Halle: Iasmim’s Dream of Becoming a Nurse
Iasmim Rodrigues is 21 years old and has been living in Halle for four years. She moved from Brazil to Belgium with a clear dream: to help people. “I always wanted to become a doctor,” she says, “but I’m starting with the VOSPA program to work as a nurse. I’ve always wanted to take care of people.”
Language as a Key to Confidence
When Iasmim arrived in Belgium, she didn’t speak Dutch. “I was afraid to speak,” she admits. But that changed quickly. She started in Dutch 1.1 and 1.2, and then moved on to the VOSPA program. “Now I feel much more confident. I’ve not only learned the language but also learned how to work with people.” In June, she will earn her VOSPA diploma and Dutch level 2.4 – an important step towards her future.
Learning with Heart and Soul
What motivated her to keep going? “My dream of becoming a nurse gave me energy every day,” she says with a smile. “I’m curious and love learning, even though Dutch is a difficult language.”
Teachers Who Make a Difference
Iasmim speaks highly of her teachers. “In Halle, I had a fantastic teacher: kind, very patient, and she used many synonyms which helped me understand everything better.” She also feels supported in the VOSPA program: “The teachers are strict but friendly. You’re allowed to make mistakes, and you always get explanations in a positive way.”
A Message for Those in Doubt
For those still hesitating to start, Iasmim has a clear message: “Don’t hesitate, just do it! In the beginning it’s difficult, but you learn a lot. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes – it’s all part of the process.”
